Andrea Kimi Antonelli further cemented his position at the summit of the 2026 Formula 1 drivers' championship following a tactical weekend at the Dutch Grand Prix. Securing a second-place finish during Sunday's main event at Zandvoort allowed the Mercedes driver to extend his advantage at the head of the standings. Antonelli now sits 59 points clear of the chasing pack, having successfully expanded his championship cushion across the coastal race weekend.
Behind the championship leader, the intra-team dynamic at Mercedes shifted significantly over the course of the Dutch weekend. George Russell delivered a commanding victory in Saturday's sprint race and followed it up with a strong grand prix performance to vault past Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton in the overall standings. Russell now occupies second place in the drivers' championship, sitting level on points with Hamilton but holding the higher position.
Lewis Hamilton slipped to third in the championship order after a challenging Zandvoort weekend. The seven-time world champion managed only a seventh-place finish in Saturday's sprint race before completing the main grand prix behind his rivals. Despite being tied on 183 points with his compatriot Russell, Hamilton sits behind his fellow Briton in the countback due to holding a single grand prix win so far this season compared to Russell's two victories.
Meanwhile, Lando Norris continued an impressive run of form by capturing back-to-back grand prix victories either side of the sport's summer shutdown. The McLaren driver converted his speed into a dominant victory on Sunday afternoon, elevating himself to fourth place in the drivers' standings with 159 points. Norris now holds a narrow four-point margin over Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who occupies fifth position after a combative weekend that included a bold mid-race overtake into Turn 1.
Charles Leclerc holds fifth in the standings on 155 points, maintaining a slender gap over Norris despite intense pressure from the McLaren camp. Max Verstappen remains sixth in the championship order for Red Bull Racing with 112 points, safely clear of teammate Oscar Piastri in seventh. Further down the points-paying positions, Isack Hadjar holds eighth for Red Bull with 68 points, just ahead of Liam Lawson and Pierre Gasly.
Pierre Gasly secured a valuable championship point for Alpine during the Zandvoort sprint race by converting an eight-part aerodynamic upgrade package into a tenth-place finish in the standings on 44 points. Behind the midfield scrap, drivers further down the order continue to search for consistency as the 2026 season pushes past its summer break towards the final rounds of the championship.
