F1 Juniors Lock Out Formula 2 Title Battle as Tsolov Leads After Spa

The 2026 Formula 2 championship title race has taken definitive shape following the conclusion of the eighth event of the season at Spa-Francorchamps. Eight rounds into the fourteen-stage calendar, four Formula 1 junior drivers have established themselves as the primary contenders for the crown, separating themselves at the head of the standings as the series reaches its second half.
Red Bull Junior Team member Nikola Tsolov leads the championship with 161 points. Racing for Campos Racing, Tsolov has built a valuable cushion over the opening eight events, establishing himself as the benchmark for the field as the grid moves past the midpoint of the 2026 campaign.
Tsolov's most immediate challenge comes from Alpine Academy driver Gabriele Minì. The Italian racer sits second in the standings on 134 points, trailing Tsolov by 27 points. Minì's position leaves him well placed to capitalize on any slip from the championship leader over the remaining six events of the season.
Ferrari Driver Academy prospect Rafael Câmara currently ranks third overall with 125 points. Câmara lies just nine points behind Minì and 36 points adrift of top spot, ensuring that three separate Formula 1 driver development programmes occupy the top three positions in the table.
The fourth driver remaining in realistic contention is Alex Dunne, who provides Alpine with a second junior driver inside the top four. Dunne sits on 108 points in fourth place, 53 points off Tsolov's lead, positioning himself as a dark horse contender behind the top three heading into the final six rounds.
The standings reflect a title battle dominated by young drivers attached to Formula 1 teams. With Tsolov on 161 points, Minì on 134, Câmara on 125 and Dunne on 108, the top four positions demonstrate how tightly contested the upper echelon of the grid has become through eight completed weekends.
With six rounds remaining on the fourteen-event schedule, the pressure on all four title contenders is set to increase. Tsolov holds the upper hand with his 27-point advantage, but with a substantial amount of points still available across the final six events, none of the leading group can afford a setback.
As the Formula 2 paddock leaves Spa-Francorchamps, the title race is set for a competitive final phase. The focus now turns to whether Minì, Câmara or Dunne can make inroads into Tsolov's lead, or if the Red Bull junior will maintain his position at the head of the 2026 standings.
