Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen secured his first career victory at the Marina Bay Street Circuit with a dominant performance that underscored his team's recent resurgence. Having captured a sprint race victory on Saturday and a grand prix win in Malaysia the previous weekend, the Dutchman controlled Sunday's event from the opening lights. Verstappen fended off an aggressive challenge from Ferrari competitor Charles Leclerc off the start line to establish an early advantage that he never relinquished.
The start proved critical as Verstappen squeezed Leclerc towards the pit wall approaching the opening corner, forcing the Ferrari driver to back off and surrender the position. Verstappen, Leclerc, and Lewis Hamilton ran closely together during the initial laps before the seven-time world champion began to drop back. Once clear of immediate pressure, Verstappen built a comfortable gap at the front, finishing clear of the field and describing the recent run of positive results as a source of strong motivation within the team.
Ferrari experienced a difficult afternoon shaped by strategic confusion and internal tyre management decisions. Hamilton, who started on medium tyres before making an early stop on lap 18, found himself embroiled in a baffling sequence later in the race. Leclerc had emerged from his second pit stop just ahead of his team-mate, yet the team elected not to swap their positions despite Hamilton demonstrating stronger pace on softer compounds.
The pivotal tactical moment arrived during a virtual safety car period on lap 39, when Leclerc and Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli dived into the pit lane for cheap stops. Hamilton opted against pitting, a choice that temporarily elevated him to second place behind Verstappen but left him deeply vulnerable for the closing stages. As tyre degradation set in, Hamilton was informed he faced a significant deficit to reach the end of the race, leading to intense battles in the final laps.
Antonelli capitalized on Hamilton's declining grip to snatch third place, extending his championship advantage to 102 points. The Italian youngster now stands on the brink of clinching his maiden world title at the upcoming United States Grand Prix in Austin, provided specific positional conditions are met. Meanwhile, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri also found a way past the struggling Ferrari in the dying laps, dropping Hamilton further down the order.
Hamilton defended robustly before ultimately slipping to sixth place after running off-track at Turn One during a passing attempt by Norris. The British driver later shouldered the responsibility for his decision to stay out on older rubber and offered an apology on his slowing-down lap. Further down the field, George Russell salvaged a seventh-place finish after starting from 19th on the grid, while Isack Hadjar rounded out the points-paying positions for Red Bull by claiming 10th from the back of the field.
