Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris has signed a new long-term contract with McLaren, securing his presence at the Woking squad through the 2030 season. The announcement follows consecutive victories in Hungary and the Netherlands, reinforcing a partnership that began when Norris joined the team's junior programme back in 2017 before making his race debut in 2019.
Alongside the core commitment running to the end of the decade, McLaren confirmed the agreement includes a multi-year option to extend the relationship further. The fresh terms align Norris with several of his primary rivals, matching the long-term commitments of drivers like Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc through the current regulatory horizon.
Reflecting on the milestone, Norris expressed deep loyalty to his longstanding base. He noted that returning McLaren to the front and securing world championships were the primary objectives he set out to accomplish when his journey started nine years ago. Having achieved those targets, the reigning title holder emphasized that the squad wants more and remains fully capable of sustained success.
As a unique token of appreciation within the new agreement, McLaren is gifting Norris the MCL39 chassis he piloted during his title-winning campaign. The gesture serves as a permanent tribute to his role in dragging the organization from the back of the grid to consecutive constructors' crowns in 2024 and 2025, culminating in the team's first drivers' championship in seventeen years.
Chief Executive Officer Zak Brown praised the driver's career trajectory as a testament to the organization's philosophy of nurturing world-class talent. Brown highlighted how the joint efforts of Norris, Oscar Piastri, Andrea Stella, and the wider workforce have successfully ushered in a modern papaya era of success.
Team principal Andrea Stella echoed those sentiments, describing the reigning champion as an exceptional talent who pairs raw speed with vital consistency and maturity. Stella noted that maintaining the lineup of Norris alongside Piastri secures crucial continuity and strengthens the unit as they prepare for the upcoming round at Monza and beyond.
