Ahead of the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Liam Lawson is preparing to trade his steering wheel for a guitar. The Racing Bulls driver has collaborated with Taylor Guitars to launch a signature acoustic model, marking the announcement with a live headline performance scheduled for Thursday evening on East 6th Street. Rather than a routine promotional appearance, the showcase will bring Lawson back to his early musical roots alongside his family and long-time friends.
Identified as the LL30 GS Mini Special Edition, the custom instrument incorporates specific styling choices tied directly to Lawson's racing identity. The guitar features a pink-to-white ombre gradient finish across the body, with his competition number 30 placed visibly in the centre. Built in partnership with Taylor Guitars, the special release represents a creative collaboration for the driver, celebrating an enthusiasm that has accompanied him alongside his racing commitments.
Music has formed a central part of Lawson's life since his early childhood years. His father played in a band and actively encouraged Liam and his brother to learn the guitar from the age of six. Although competitive single-seater racing eventually became Lawson's chosen profession, playing remained an enduring habit that provided balance throughout his journey into a Formula 1 race seat.
Speaking about the upcoming performance, Lawson described the guitar launch and concert as a genuine full-circle moment, having the opportunity to share the stage with his brother and two close childhood bandmates. He explained that playing guitar serves as an important outlet to clear his head during the pressures of the racing season. Performing in Austin gives him an ideal setting to step away from paddock tension and connect directly with supporters who share his musical interests.
The live performance will take place at Inn Cahoots on Austin's East 6th Street as part of Racing Bulls' Garage Sessions, an initiative conceived to bring racing, music, and community together. The schedule begins on Thursday afternoon at 3pm with the Esses Bazaar, offering attendees live music, local food, western wear, glam stations, tattoos, and a display featuring the team's Formula 1 show car. Garage Sessions then follows at 7pm, setting the stage for Lawson's live set alongside his childhood group.
Lawson will not be performing alone during the evening programme. The Garage Sessions bill brings together an expansive collection of established songwriters and emerging musical talent, including Jonathan Capeci, Scoot Teasley, Jess Farren, Alison Nichols, and Drake Milligan. For Racing Bulls, curating a multi-artist roster in downtown Austin provides an engaging cultural crossover for travelling spectators and local fans in the build-up to track action.
Once the live music wraps up on Thursday night, Lawson will quickly switch back into race mode as the United States Grand Prix weekend gets underway. Performing in downtown Austin allows the young driver to showcase an authentic creative side that does not involve driving at over two hundred miles per hour. In a championship that leaves very little room for personal downtime, Lawson's off-track appearance offers a welcome glimpse of the life and passions drivers nurture away from the garage.
