The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile is heading to Buenos Aires for its upcoming American Congress, where regional mobility and motorsport priorities will take center stage. Hosted by the Automóvil Club Argentino, the three-day gathering runs from August 31 to September 2 and brings together delegates from 32 member clubs across North, Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean.
Javier Milei, President of Argentina, is scheduled to officially open the Congress. His opening remarks will set the tone for discussions centered on building safer and more sustainable road mobility alongside strategies to improve motorsport accessibility across the hemisphere. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem expressed gratitude to the Argentinian leader for joining the summit, highlighting the nation's deep-rooted racing passion as an ideal backdrop for the discussions.
The agenda features collaborative workshops, knowledge-sharing sessions and updates on regional initiatives. Among the highlights of the week will be the announcement of the FIA Innovation Challenge 2026 Regional Champions for Regions III and IV. Additionally, the presentation of the José Abed Award will honor a sporting club that has successfully advanced regional empowerment, knowledge promotion, and the integration of sport and mobility.
Local hosts and regional leaders emphasized the ongoing momentum within the continent. Frank Fotia, President of FIA Region III, and Ricardo Morales Rubio, President of Region IV, both noted that the meetings provide a critical framework for member clubs to pool their expertise, address shared challenges faced by road users, and strengthen cooperation across the entire federation network.
Automóvil Club Argentino President César C. Carman stressed the privilege of welcoming delegates to a country boasting such a rich automotive culture. Argentina's motorsport heritage spans generations, highlighted by legendary figures such as five-time Formula One World Champion Juan Manuel Fangio, alongside contemporary grand prix driver Franco Colapinto and enduring national competitions like Turismo Carretera.
Beyond the sporting spectacle, the country represents a major mobility market within Latin America. Managing an expansive road network that serves over 15 million vehicles, the domestic sector is actively navigating the transition toward hybrid and electric vehicle adoption alongside traditional manufacturing interests.
The overarching governance of the governing body relies heavily on its network of 246 member organizations across five continents. Operating through dual pillars of Mobility Clubs, which champion road safety and consumer interests, and National Sporting Authorities that oversee competition regulations, the federation continues to shape the future of global transit and racing compliance.
